Active Listening - Don’t just wait impatiently until it is your turn to speak. Make the effort to read between the lines, observe their body language and try to avoid asking yes/no questions. 

Stating Your Objective - Heading into a discussion with no real aim, such as building trust, preempting a sale or even just having fun hardly ever has foreseeable consequences. Always be aware of the objective of your conversation.
